John Terry branded the BBC a “disgrace” after the announcer ridiculed Cristiano Ronaldo for his missed penalty in Portugal’s win over Slovenia.

Ronaldo had the chance to score the winning goal from the penalty spot in the closing stages, but his shot was saved by Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

While showing a replay of the penalty, the BBC added the caption ‘Misstiano Penaldo’, prompting a furious response from former Chelsea star Terry. In an Instagram story, Terry said: ‘BBC this is a disgrace.’

Ronaldo was in tears after missing the penalty, but the 39-year-old saved himself by scoring from the spot to send Portugal to a 3-0 win in the shootout and into the quarter-finals of Euro 2024.

Sadio Mane, who is Ronaldo’s teammate at club level at Al-Nassr, also defended Ronaldo, writing: ‘You remain a great champion! CR7’.
