Grisly new details have emerged about the murder of a young nurse who was found dead in a parking garage at Boston Logan International Airport.

Margaret ‘Maggie’ Mbitu, 31, suffered horrific facial injuries, including cuts to her face and neck, and a stab wound to her side, investigators have revealed.

Police have launched an international manhunt for the suspected killer, Kevin Kangethe, 40, who was reportedly in a relationship with Mbitu and reportedly boarded a flight to Kenya after the murder.

As investigators work with Kenyan authorities to find Kangethe, Mbitu’s heartbroken mother Rose said: “I don’t understand how anyone can take away someone’s life for no reason… even now I have so many questions.”

Mbitu was last seen leaving work in Halifax, Massachusetts around 11 p.m. in her white 2013 Toyota Venza.

Her colleagues, who described her as the kind of person who ‘takes on Christmas duties so others can spend time with their families’, shared a flyer online after labeling her ‘missing’ when they were unable to get hold of her. .

Her body was discovered two days later on Wednesday evening by Massachusetts State Police, who arrived on the scene at the Logan Central Parking Garage at 6:30 p.m., according to an arrest warrant for Kengethe released Friday morning.

Officers tracked down Mbitu’s car in the parking garage, where they found an “unresponsive person,” later identified as Mbitu, in the front passenger seat.

The SUV contained a significant amount of blood and the body showed “obvious signs of death,” including large lacerations to her face and neck and a stab wound to her side, according to state police.

No motive for the murder has been established.

Surveillance footage released by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office showed a man, believed to be Kengethe, leaving the central parking garage shortly after the Toyota pulled into the parking lot.

The suspect was then tracked through the Logan Airport terminal and boarded a flight.

Massachusetts investigators are now working with Kenyan authorities to track down the suspected killer, reports said NBC Boston.

Tributes have been paid to Mbitu after her body was tragically found, with her loved ones saying they were struggling to come to terms with the ‘tremendous loss’.

“We have lost a beautiful girl that we all loved,” said her cousin George Kamu. “When you saw that beautiful smile, that’s what you saw all the time.”

Her cousin Virginia Ndungu mourned her death because Mbitu “had so much ambition, she had drive… she was a beautiful soul.”

“Her loss is not only a loss for us, but also for her friends, her colleagues, her patients and for the entire community,” she added.

“I don’t understand,” said her mother, Rose. “I don’t understand how anyone can take someone’s life for no reason… even now I have so many questions.”
