Manchester United will lose £10 million a year in sponsorship revenue for every season it fails to reach the Champions League from 2025.
Mail Sport has learned that a penalty clause has been included in the terms of the club’s renegotiated 10-year deal with Adidas.
That means United could lose up to £100 million if the struggling giants consistently fail to qualify for Europe’s premier club competition.
The record-breaking kit deal – potentially worth £900 million – will start in the 2025-2026 season.
United’s current ten-year contract started in 2015 and is worth up to £750 million.

It contains a Champions League clause that means if you don’t play in it for two consecutive seasons, annual payments will be reduced by £25 million per year.
The club has missed out on the elite competition three times since signing the deal.
It is understood the new Adidas deal also includes bonus clauses worth up to £4.4m per year if the men’s or women’s teams win domestic or European silverware.
Manchester United are currently bottom of the Champions League group after losing to Copenhagen in midweek
