Police have revealed that a teenager who went missing in the outback for nearly two weeks was last seen in a stolen car before mysteriously disappearing.
An extensive search by land and air spanning hundreds of miles has been staged for Tea Wright-Finger, 19, who was last seen by a friend who dropped her off at a blue Toyota Prado 4WD in Richmond in far northwestern Queensland.
But on Thursday, Queensland police revealed that the Prado had been reported stolen two days earlier before disappearing on October 16.
“The Prado, which is associated with Tea and which Tea was last seen in the area, is a stolen vehicle,” Detective Inspector Damien Crosby told reporters.
“The Prado was stolen as a result of a fraud-related offence.

‘We do not disregard any research opportunity. The fact that the vehicle was stolen is, of course, part of an investigation.
“But I want to reiterate to Tea or any other acquaintance of Tea that it remains our priority to locate her safe and sound and make sure she’s okay.”
Police said the Toyota Prado she was last seen in was stolen Oct. 14 in the city of Proserpine and is still listed as a current active stolen vehicle.
Investigators were unable to confirm the vehicle’s direction of travel from Richmond when it was last seen.
Insp Crosby said officers have a timeline of the 19-year-old’s movements up to her disappearance, but are seeking more information as part of their investigation.
The remote, hot and humid outback area is searched by land and air, using SES, search and rescue teams, helicopters and aircraft.
The quest has covered more than 700 km through the air, including Cloncurry, Four Ways and Julia Creek.
