A missing New York woman who disappeared in the early hours of New Year's Eve after being last seen at a bar was found dead blocks from the tracks.

Jennifer Hicks, 33, had gone out with friends to celebrate the New Year's holiday. She was reportedly last seen around 2:30 a.m. at a bar called Ziggy's, located on Railroad Street in Rochester.

Hicks' father, concerned when he didn't hear from his daughter on New Year's Day, called police to file a missing person's report nearly 12 hours after she was last seen alive.

Police began searching for the woman on foot and by drone and issued a missing person bulletin on their social media.

On Tuesday around 4 p.m., Hicks' body was discovered at the bottom of an embankment near railroad tracks at Scio Street and Portland Avenue in Rochester.

According to Monroe County Sheriff's Department PIO Deputy Brendan Hurley, there were “no obvious signs of foul play.”

The sheriff's office is awaiting the medical examiner's report to determine Hicks' manner and cause of death.

“It's an active investigation,” Hurley said. “Nothing has been ruled out because we don't have a definitive answer as to how she died.”

Originally from the Rochester area, Hicks lived in a suburb called Pittsford.

It's unclear why Hicks' friends weren't with her, why she was alone and whether she tried to walk home, though the deputy said it's not a typical way to walk back to where she lives.

He said it's about a 15-minute drive and near a major highway.

There isn't much walking on the dike where she was discovered, especially at that time of day.

DailyMail.com contacted Ziggy's bar to find out if they had seen Hicks' before she left the bar and if she had left with anyone, but they were unavailable for comment at the time of publication.

According to her social media page, Hicks worked for Monroe Ambulance.

There's also a photo of her, with two friends, giving a thumbs up to what appears to be a car dealership, taken earlier this year.

A few months before her death, Hicks posted two cryptic messages on her Facebook.

In September, she wrote in what appeared to be a diary entry, saying: “Sometimes God puts you in places ALONE – emphasizing the word by underlining it – because He needs you to realize that you do NOT need anyone but HIM !!!'

In October she wrote: 'Today I'm going into the unknown. Hold my drink while I grab my flashlight,” with some fun emojis.

Friends and loved one were distraught to hear the news of her sudden death and expressed how much they will miss her.
