How a missing 400kg shipment of cocaine sparked Sydney’s bloody underworld war and a bitter feud between NSW police and federal cops

  • Loot of 100 million dollars in cocaine in 2020 vanished
  • Some NSW Police figures claim AFP confiscated loot
  • Lost drugs sparked tensions between gangs

A stray haul of 400kg of cocaine that allegedly sparked Sydney’s bloody gang war may have been seized by the Australian Federal Police, some New South Wales Police figures claim.

The drug shipment valued at $100 million belonged to the Comanchero motorcycle gang and disappeared in 2020.

Suspicions that the cocaine was stolen by a rival criminal group allegedly led to a fierce underworld conflict that left more than a dozen dead.

But several NSW police detectives believe the AFP intercepted the shipment, as it is common practice for the federal agency to seize and destroy drugs before making arrests.

“Some investigators are blaming the feds for the missing import, saying it never left the docks,” a former officer told the outlet. daily telegraph.

‘There were suspicions everywhere in the street and that sparked tensions between the [criminal] groups There are those who firmly believe that there was no theft and that it was concealed by the federal agency.

A senior official said the AFP’s preference for immediately seizing and destroying drugs caused problems for their state police counterparts.

‘The feds don’t care, they think the drugs are off the street and they’ve saved lives and that’s it. We have to deal with the flow. It’s not just a problem in New South Wales, but in other states as well,” he said.

But other NSW police figures still believe the 400kg shipment made it past police and was later stolen from a Sydney warehouse.

Tensions then escalated when the Hamzy family was blamed for stealing the drugs and allegedly sparked the war between them and the Alameddines.

The police dispute over investigative methods is also behind an AFP complaint to US Ambassador Caroline Kennedy that led to two DEA agents being sent home.

Federal Police Commissioner Reece Kershaw told the US embassy that his officers were having problems with DEA agents, the Daily Telegraph reported.

“The DEA and the state police have a similar view of thinking about the long game where they substitute drugs and try to follow it,” said a senior official.

“The federal police are very quick to seize drugs. The problem with that is that the syndicate just got another shipment in the works.

The AFP told Daily Mail Australia that it does not comment on current operational matters.
