- Fearing for their lover, Mr. Campbell’s family flew to Las Palmas to look for him
- His sister later confirmed the tragic news that her brother had been found dead
A Scottish man has been found dead on holiday in Lanzarote after failing to board a flight home with his friend.
Robert Campbell, 44, was enjoying his first ever holiday abroad in the Canary Island when he disappeared because he was due to fly home last Thursday.
Shortly before the flight, Mr Campbell became unwell and was taken to hospital. But after being examined, the Scot was deemed well enough to fly home.
Mr Campbell was separated from his friend Paddy at the airport shortly before the flight and could not be contacted, it was reported.
Fearing for their loved one, Mr. Campbell’s family put out an appeal to help locate him when two of them flew to Las Palmas, the island’s capital, to search for him.

His sister, Margueritte Devine, confirmed the tragic news that her brother was found dead on Tuesday.
The family launched one GoFundMe page to cover some of the costs of bringing Mr Campbell’s body home to Uddington, in South Lanarkshire, and to pay for his funeral.
Mrs Devine wrote: ‘Unfortunately our brother passed away yesterday in Lanzarote and we are left with a bill of £6 and £10,000 for funeral expenses.
“We are desperate to get him home as soon as possible, so I’m writing this to reach out from my heart to help us get him home.”
Tributes have been paid to the Scot on social media, with friends and family calling him ‘one of the best’.
One user shares the GoFundMe page, wrote, “Can everyone please share this and help us get our Uncle Rab home where he belongs as soon as possible.”
She added: “One of our relatives and friends flew to Lanzarote to find him and bring him home but sadly they were too late so we are all heartbroken and devastated and shocked.”
Another shared pictures of Mr Campbell and wrote: ‘Shocked to hear the passing of our uncle, who was reported missing in Lanzarote, has been found dead. On vacation for the first time and never going back. REST IN PEACE’
Another said, ‘RIP cuz. You are one of the best. Sending much love to my cousins and thinking of all of you, love you.’
