Miriam Margolyes has shared the secrets of her decades-long romance with Heather Sunderland.

The British-Australian actress and her partner, who likes to stay out of the spotlight, have been together for no less than 55 years.

“I just think you have to tell the truth, never let the sun set on an argument, listen to the other person and don’t look for – don’t gamble with your luck,” the 82-year-old told Australia’s The Project on Friday evening.

‘Don’t look for another genital. Be happy with what you’ve got’.

‘I think adultery is nonsense. I think it’s a waste of time. Cherish what you have,” the Babe star continued.

And if it really isn’t working, talk about it and share it. But do it with kindness. That’s all I can say.’

Elsewhere in the interview, Miriam admitted that she was no longer sexually active.

“I’m done with sex, but I don’t want everyone to be done with it because otherwise the world would stop,” she said.

Miriam met Heather, 80, through a mutual friend while working on a BBC radio drama after Miriam graduated from Cambridge University.

Heather is an Australian historian and former professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Heather first met Miriam in 1967 and the couple have been together ever since.

In Miriam’s 2021 autobiography, This Much Is True, she says of her partnership: ‘We’ve been together for 53 years. It’s a big achievement.

‘Heather, an academic and a scholar, is my polar opposite: reserved, incredibly private and reserved.’
