Miranda Hart, 51, reveals she BROKE UP with her husband just before he popped the question – as she admits she had always believed her ‘hope for finding love was very, very slim’
Miranda Hart has revealed she broke up with her husband before his romantic proposal in Kew Gardens.
The comedian surprised fans this week when she announced she was getting married at the age of 51, but has now admitted her relationship has had its challenges.
In her new book I Haven’t Been Completely Honest With You, Miranda confessed that she “briefly” broke up with her husband after believing her “hope of finding love was very, very small.”
“I admitted that I also longed for love within a romantic relationship, for that one person to really get me, but my hope for that was very, very low,” she admitted.
But even after meeting her building inspector husband when he came to fix a mold problem in her £2million home, Miranda took a step back before deciding: ‘I didn’t have to run away.’

Miranda was spotted cycling with a mystery man on a towpath near Hammersmith Bridge, close to where the BBC star lives, almost a year ago. This leads to speculation that this is her husband
‘I was vulnerable, but I still felt worthy. I had shown him the dumbest me, the irritable me, the farting me, the no-makeup makeup, the teary me, the deep me. I completely trusted that he was there because he liked me.”
The real Bridget Jones revealed on the One Show on Tuesday night that she married the building inspector this year at the age of 51 after he proposed in Kew Gardens, west London.
The comedian has gone to great lengths not to reveal his identity, referring to him simply as ‘The Boy’ or ‘The Mold Man’ in her new book I Haven’t Been Completely Honest With You.
The man, who she met when he came to fix a mold problem in her £2million home, is described as having ‘a salt-and-pepper graying hair look for a man with good looks’.
The comedian first announced the news that she is married on Tuesday night, live on The One Show, after a wave of rumours.
Speaking to Alex Jones and Alex Scott about her mystery husband, Miranda, 51, she declared “someone put a ring on it” when she revealed she met “my person” at the age of 49.
In her memoir, the actress went into detail about how he popped the question, explaining that her boyfriend suggested the couple go to the gardens for a walk on an “ordinary January day.”
She wrote: ‘We were standing still on the bridge overlooking the lake when the silence was broken when he said ‘Miranda’ quite seriously. I turned around and as I did he got down on one knee. “Miranda…”
“I don’t remember anything else because I just burst into tears and apparently said yes before he finished the sentence (awkward when he had tied a shoelace…)”
Emotionally, she wrote, “I didn’t think a traditional proposal would affect me this much.
“But there was someone who knew all my ridiculousness and brokenness and was still willing to lean in, look up, and commit to loving me and standing by me for the rest of his life.”

Miranda later described her husband as kind, loving and a lot of fun, before dramatically writing, “He’s not my boyfriend.” He’s my husband. We got married when I was fifty-one.’
During her exciting announcement on The One Show, she said: “I’m married, I got married at 51 and it’s just so beautiful!”
‘I had written to Gary [Tom Ellis] for Miranda on screen and it wasn’t until I was 49 that I met my person,” she stated, but insisted she would keep her husband’s identity a secret.
‘It’s a small subtext in the book, I’m not going to reveal how we met, because that’s a bit of a twist. He is my best friend, we had the most fun and I love being a young bride at 51.”

The star added that she hoped readers of her book will feel hope through her love story, explaining; “The fact that I met someone during a pandemic, during a chronic illness, when I couldn’t get out of bed or out of the house… I really wanted to meet someone, I didn’t want to go on living. mine no longer.’
“The fact that I was able to meet someone is not some kind of romantic comedy, but it is hope. Whatever situation you are in, there is always hope, things are really changing.’
The star first set tongues wagging about the new man in her life during publicity for the memoir, teasing in her inimitable style that she “couldn’t possibly tell if there was a love story in it… (There is – silence ) Exciting .’
