Miracle moment California mother gives birth on her front porch is captured on doorbell camera

This is the incredible moment a mother gave birth on her porch.

Footage shows Natasha Downing, who was 39 weeks pregnant at the time, walking to the car to go to the hospital when her waters broke on her doorstep in Calabasa, California.

Her doorbell camera captured Natasha, 34, crouching down and giving birth to a baby girl, Lilybella, with her husband Tom, 38, by her side.

Tom later filmed Natasha as she lay on the floor with Lilybella in her arms and towels draped over her body as they waited for midwives to arrive.

Natasha said of the sudden birth: ‘I walk down the stairs and feel my baby coming. I had to squat outside and then my water broke. I knew I wouldn’t make it to the birth center.”

On the morning of the birth, Natasha visited her midwife around 11:30 am, who gave her a membrane exam (a common procedure used to induce labor naturally), as Natasha wanted to give birth in a birth centre.

After being sent home by her midwife, Natasha’s labor began just a few hours later.

She was having contractions every three minutes, but had no pain; but decided to call her midwife, who lived 15 minutes away, to let her know that her labor had started.

Soon the pain increased and the contractions began to shorten to just one minute apart. This severe pain led Natasha to end the conversation with the midwife.

After hanging up, the 34-year-old and her husband Tom decided to wait 30 minutes, but when she hung up, within two minutes her contractions were too painful to get up, and they knew it was time to go to the hospital. .

As the contractions shortened again to just 10 seconds, her entire labor was over within an hour.

Tom, her 38-year-old husband, started running around the house, packing the car and getting ready to take his wife to the birth center.

The expectant mother realized she couldn’t move and struggled to put on her clothes.

Natasha waited a few minutes to give her enough time to get up and decided to go down the stairs, but then the baby started to come.

Natasha kept screaming for laughing gas and asked her husband to call the midwife back because she urgently needed the pain relief.

As she walked down the stairs, she immediately felt her baby coming and managed to get just outside her front door.

As she crouched on the porch, Natasha’s water broke, and her husband crouched down and soon saw the baby’s head sticking out. While Tom called the midwife, her father called 911 to get help.

But before the couple knew it, it was too late and their little girl was on the way.

Lilybella was born completely healthy at 6.25pm, weighing 4.5kg, with a midwife and paramedics soon arriving on the scene to check on the mother and baby.

Natasha shared how despite the chaos; her birth was one of the best experiences of her life.

She said: ‘She was completely healthy, it was everything I had ever dreamed of, this was everything I had wanted for both of my births – it sounds like it would be a traumatic birth but it was very healing and truly amazing. ‘

‘After hanging up the phone with the midwife I decided to wait 30 minutes and as soon as the call ended, within two minutes my contractions were too painful to stand.

‘I couldn’t stand or move, I couldn’t put on any clothes and I couldn’t get to the birth center.

‘I was walking down the stairs and I felt my baby coming. I just felt my body pushing her down. The brain doesn’t work the way it does when you are normal and aware.

‘I kept shouting at him to get laughing gas and tell the midwife to get it ready because I don’t think I can get there.

‘I got past the front door, I crouched down and my water broke, and then my husband squatted and saw the baby’s head sticking out of me.

β€œI sat down in the squat and breathed as if I wasn’t pushing at all, and her mind cleared on its own.

β€œAs my husband watched, he told me the baby was blue and only her head was out, and I can feel her pushing back.

‘I didn’t know how she could go wrong in this position. So I lay on my side and lay with my leg in the air.

‘I was on call for my midwife, and all I knew was that I had to push to free her shoulders. My husband got her head and it’s amazing. My neighbor ran outside, pulled my head onto her lap and came out with towels.

β€œIt’s like a wave goes through my body and that was my only push, and she came out and she was completely fine. One push and she came out, and I gave birth at 6:25 p.m.

‘My midwives arrived and I delivered the placenta when they arrived. The midwives checked the baby and gave him a vitamin K injection, and I stayed home.’
