Minnesota nursing home resident, 80, dies horror death after her motorized scooter exploded in flames

An 80-year-old nursing home resident in Minnesota died after she was found “completely engulfed” in flames in her electric scooter.

The woman was found outside the Boundary Waters Care Center in Ely on Tuesday after emergency services responded to a 911 call just after 4:30 p.m.

The victim, whose identity has yet to be released, was found covered in flames before staff members could remove her from the scooter, according to Ely police.

She suffered severe burns and was taken to Ely Hospital.

She was then airlifted to Duluth and later died after succumbing to her injuries.

One of the staff members who helped the victim from the scooter suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at hospital.

It is unclear what caused the fire.

DailyMail.com contacted the Boundary Waters Care Center, the Minnesota State Fire Marshal and the St. Louis Medical Examiner’s Office for comment.
