A miner has been killed, making it the second fatality at one of Western Australia’s largest gold mines in the past 18 months.
The 21-year-old man died at the St Ives mine near Kambalda, in the Goldfields of Western Australia, at 3pm on Tuesday.
Gold Fields acting vice-president for Australia Graeme Ovens said operations had been suspended immediately.
“It is with great sadness that Gold Fields confirms that a colleague was fatally injured at the St Ives mine yesterday,” he said.
