Milwaukee gay bars BAN customers from wearing Jeffrey Dahmer Halloween costumes

Gay bars in Milwaukee, Wisconsin have banned patrons from wearing Jeffrey Dahmer’s Halloween costumes because the famous serial killer preyed on his victims in the city’s LGBT community.

The convicted serial killer famously targeted the gay male community in the Wisconsin city in the late 1970s to early 1990s for a decade and a half.

During that time he killed 17 men and boys, the bodies of whom he chopped up and sometimes ate.

Interest in the carnage has skyrocketed with the release of the Netflix drama Dahmer starring Evan Peters, sparking a new wave of interest in the grim affair.

Those wearing Dahmer attire will be barred from entry to LGBT venues DIX and This Is It in the Midwest city this Halloween.

Representatives of This is It! told local channel WISN 12 that despite Dahmer never coming to their bar, they’ve “been on the phone since the Netflix series aired because we’re the oldest LGBTQ+ bar in Milwaukee and in the Midwest.”

This, coupled with the popularity of the series and people on social media toying with the idea that it would be a good idea to somehow dress up as this bad person, prompted the bar to release a statement. to state that such hateful and disrespectful costumes are not allowed. in our space,” they added.

Dahmer was convicted in the early 1990s of first-degree murder of 15 victims, whom he murdered, dismembered and cannibalized over more than a decade.

DIX posted its statement on Facebook, where many of its customers agreed with the decision

Similarly, DIX said it will not allow customers dressed as Dahmer for fear of re-traumatizing customers who lived through the killer’s time.

“We understand that there is a generation that has not experienced this situation, they may not understand the gravity of the impact it has on the community,” one of the bar’s managers, Eric Hamilton, told the outlet.

“We don’t want to put customers in a situation where they should see or relive something that they really needed to experience. That’s not a suit,” he added.

Dahmer found some of his local victims in gay bars in Walker’s Point, Milwaukee.

Hamilton said the way his bar is handling the situation is “out of respect”.

“We’re not here to tell you what’s appropriate or to get authoritarian on you, but at the end of the day, we’ll politely ask you to either take off part of your costume so it doesn’t bother anyone, or politely telling you that you should. go to another bar,’ he said.

Online customers who responded to the bars’ statements generally agreed with their decisions.

Despite opposition from various spheres of the public — including families of Dahmer’s victims — many people will attend Halloween events this year dressed as the infamous killer.

In addition to gay bars in Milwaukee, sites like Ebay have stopped selling Dahmer costumes this year.

While the site previously featured glasses that resembled the shape of Dahmer’s signature lenses, as well as a tool case similar to the ones Dahmer would wear and use on his victims — the site pulled those products after a public outcry, including from some of the families of Dahmer’s victims.

Ebay claimed the suits violated the company’s “violence and violent criminals” policy.

Critics have said it’s easy to make a makeshift Dahmer costume out of a blonde wig and wire-framed glasses.
