The Milwaukee Brewers are about to explore relocation options as the team looks to renovate American Family Field.

According to Front Office Sportsthe team is seeking $448 million in upgrades to the stadium that opened in 2001.

While relocating may not be the best choice, it appears MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred is pressuring Wisconsin state officials to provide funds by hinting that the team could move as early as this fall.

American Family Field – formerly known as Miller Park – broke ground in 1996 for its grand opening day in 2001.

Before then, the Brewers played at Milwaukee County Stadium – a park that had been open for 50 years before closing in 2000.

If the Brewers move, they would become one of four teams to move twice in their history.

The other teams that moved twice are the Orioles (Milwaukee to St. Louis to Baltimore), the Athletics (Philadelphia to Kansas City to Oakland), and the Braves (Boston to Milwaukee to Atlanta). The Athletics are the only team to move three times with a planned relocation to Las Vegas

The Brewers were founded in 1969 as the Seattle Pilots and played there for only one season before Bud Selig would move them to Milwaukee.

Selig—who would later become Major League Baseball’s commissioner—brought the team to Milwaukee to fill the void left by the Braves’ move to Atlanta.

During the franchise’s existence, the Brewers played in both the American League and the National League.

They have won three NL Central titles – most recently in 2021 – and two AL East titles in the 1981 and 1982 seasons.

The Brewers reached the World Series once in 1982, where they lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games.

It’s unclear exactly where the Brewers plan to move, but rumors of expansion in recent years have mentioned cities like Austin, San Antonio, Nashville and Portland.
