Milperra crash: Father and daughter identified after their rideshare car collided with a Toyota Hilux

A father and daughter who died in a ride-hailing crash in Sydney’s south-west have been identified.

Thai Duong, 41, and his 12-year-old daughter Haili died at 7.40pm on Sunday after the DiDi vehicle they were in collided with another car on Milperra Road, Milperra.

Emergency services rushed to the crash site, near Bankstown Aerodrome, after reports a white Toyota Ute collided with a black Toyota sedan, causing it to roll and trapping passengers.

The 41-year-old father was in the backseat of the sedan, along with his daughter Haili and 10-year-old son.

Paramedics and intensive care doctors tried to free the passengers from the sedan, but Mr Duong and his daughter died at the scene.

The family were members of St Brendan’s Catholic Primary School in Central Bankstown.

St. Brendan’s Catholic Primary School principal Patricia Laidler sent an email to parents on Monday informing them of the ‘tragic’ accident.

“It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that the accident reported in the news this morning involved a member of our school community,” Ms Laidler wrote.

‘It is tragic that Haili Duong from sixth grade died in the accident last night along with her father Thai Duong.

“At this time, we extend our deepest condolences to the entire family as they mourn this loss. The school will work closely with the family to ensure they receive the support and care they need during this time.

“The death is tragic no matter how it happens and leaves behind many loved ones who need our support more than anything at this time. As a school community we are praying for Haili and her family and she is deeply in our thoughts and prayers.”

The 52-year-old male driver of the DiDi sedan was also treated at the scene and rushed to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the ute, a 19-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory tests.
