Horror as a student in his 20s is found in a pool of blood after a stranger burst into his home: ‘Probably dead within a day’
An international student fights for his life after he is reportedly attacked and left for dead during a violent home invasion.
Shocked housemates found the Bangladeshi student, 23, in his bed surrounded by a pool of blood at around 4:30 am Wednesday at their home in Millner, a suburb of Darwin.
The burglar fled the house armed with a fire extinguisher.
The student was rushed to the Royal Darwin Hospital in critical condition, where doctors have warned he will not survive his ‘significant’ injuries.
“With a prognosis like that, he will probably die within a day,” an anonymous surgeon told NT News.
“There was no point in doing anything but inserting an intracranial pressure gauge and giving him palliative care.”
Northern Territory police were called to the home on Trower Road following the alleged home invasion.
A 29-year-old man was arrested nearby a short time later and is still in custody. No charges have yet been filed.
Anyone who has seen anything suspicious in the area at that time or has CCTV footage is urgently requested to contact the police on 131 444.
