Millions of additional Google Workspace users gain access to Gemini AI

Google has announced The generative AI-powered Gemini assistant will be included in Google Workspace Business, Enterprise, and Frontline plans, significantly expanding the platform’s user base.

The offering promises compliance with an organization’s security and privacy policies and additional controls for IT administrators.

Aparna Pappu, GM and VP of Google Workspace, explained that the company hopes to make the widely promised productivity benefits of GenAI accessible to even more workers.

Gemini now available for select Google Workspace plans

If you want to integrate Gemini into the Office suite of apps, you’ll still need to purchase an add-on, which starts at $20 per month annually for the Gemini Business plan.

As a business-focused product, Google promises not to use organizational data, user prompts, or generated responses to train or improve its AI models. Admins also have control over how long Gemini stores user-generated content, so businesses can adhere to their data retention policies.

Additionally, SOC 1/2/3, ISO 27001, and ISO 27701 certifications, on top of HIPAA support previously announced for 2024, should help put Gemini in the hands of more users, particularly in highly regulated industries like healthcare and finance.

To coincide with the Gemini for Workspace updates, Google also rolled out a new Security Advisor tool that provides administrators with actionable recommendations against cyberthreats and other security issues.

According to internal research around Gemini usage, users saved an average of 105 minutes per week. Three quarters of daily Gemini users also reported an improvement in the quality of their work.
