Nineteen Steps, out on September 12, is a history novel about a courageous 18-year-old named Nellie Morris, who lives with her family in Bethnal Green, London’s East End, as the Second World War rages on around them.

When a tragic accident occurs one night during an air raid, the consequences are catastrophic and life for Nellie will never be the same.

‘Writing Nineteen Steps has been a very special project for me. The story is inspired by true events and my own family history,” she explained, showing a photo of herself and her grandmother.

In a statement released through publisher William Morrow, the Screen Actors Guild Award winner revealed a few more details about her personal connection to the story, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Inspired by my nanny Ruth, this book is very personal and close to my heart,” Millie said.

‘I grew up listening to stories about her time during the war. I feel honored to keep her story alive.”

Millie and her fiancé Jake got engaged earlier this year after two years of dating and announced the news with a sweet Instagram post.

The star recently revealed in a candid interview that she has started planning a wedding and it’s “so much fun.”

She expressed her excitement about getting engaged to Jake and planning their wedding together in an interview with Women’s clothing everyday last month.

The star also talked about her preference to keep her life private as she prefers to keep the special moments for herself.

She said of her upcoming big day, “I can say the planning is going along. It’s so much fun. And it’s such an exciting time in my life.’

“It just feels unnatural to me to see everyone’s opinion and eyes on that,” she said of wedding planning.

“So I think it’s important to hold those things – those little, precious moments in life – very close to your chest.”
