“I’m a big believer in therapy to help heal painful memories and I’m in a good place – but the reality is it should never have happened!”
The singer of Party In The USA — whose sitcom ran from 2006 to 2011 — infamously shed her child star image with a sexually charged performance of Blurred Lines with Robin Thicke at the 2013 VMAs.
On the same day, she released her raunchy Wrecking Ball video, but insisted the career move had nothing to do with attention and more that she needed to “prove” she was her “own person” regardless of the character she had played .
She added, “I’m not an attention seeking person, but I had a point to prove I was my own person and not a character I was playing. I wouldn’t erase any part of my story or my transition – I always think that an interesting life makes for interesting stories.
“I was honest with my fans about struggling with depression, and I know that this has encouraged some of them to seek help for the issues they may be facing. That gave me a real purpose, a reason to get up in the morning. When you’re open and honest, that becomes part of who you are – and organically that will be reflected in your songwriting.”
Asked to give advice to others in show business, Miley stressed that it’s never a good idea for stars to find themselves online, as she compared the dangers of the Internet to those of addictive substances.
She said, ‘Don’t Google yourself, I totally mean it, don’t Google yourself! People are so willing to talk about the dangers of booze and drugs for your people in the industry – but there isn’t enough warning about the internet. It can be a really poisonous place!’
It comes after Miley was the maid of honor at her mother Tish Cyrus’s wedding to Dominic Purcell earlier this month.
