Miley Cyrus performs Flowers live for the first time ever at private event – as she interrupts diss-track of ex-husband Liam Hemsworth to exclaim: ‘I’m the CEO of my own company!’
Miley Cyrus gave her first live performance of her hit Flowers on Tuesday evening.
The 30-year-old singer delivered a soulful rendition of the record-breaking tune at the invitation-only event at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Los Angeles.
Flowers, which became the fastest song ever to reach a billion streams on Spotify in May, is said to be based on Miley’s doomed relationship with her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth.
Wearing an elegant black mini dress and matching gloves, Miley showed off her stunning vocals while showing off her comedic timing with sly comments.
As she somberly sang the lyrics, “I started crying…”, Miley soon cheered up her audience with a joke, “I’m the CEO of my own company!”

She drew laughter and cheers from the audience as she mourned “the roses you left behind” before cheerfully adding, “Now they’re dead!”
“Miley Cyrus singing + comedy skills = the ultimate experience,” praised a fan in the audience.
Despite the song’s record-breaking success, the event marked Miley’s first time performing it live.
Miley also teased fans with an untitled new song, captioned: “Don’t leave me high / Don’t let me down / Cause I want you more.”
Flowers is thought to be a criticism of Miley’s relationship with Hunger Games actor Liam, who she divorced in 2019 after eight months of marriage.
It subtly references Bruno Mars’ song When I Was Your Man, which is reportedly the song Liam dedicated to Miley during their relationship.
The pop song’s lyrics reference her failed relationship with the Australian hunk, including a double entender about Miley seeing her wedding and the Malibu home they once shared “burned to the ground.”
“We were right / Until we weren’t / Built a house and watched it burn down,” she sings.
Multi-talented: Miley entertained her audience with jokes, including interrupting her song to declare, “I’m the CEO of my own company!”
Record breaking! Miley Cyrus celebrated her song Flowers as the fastest song in Spotify history to reach one billion streams
Miley shared a black and white photo of herself with a note from Spotify: “On May 4, Miley Cyrus’ Flowers Became the Fastest Song to Reach Billion Streams in Spotify History
In November 2018, their home was completely destroyed due to the devastating Woolsey Fire. They married a month later but split in August 2019 after less than a year.
Additionally, Miley released the very racy music video for the Grammy-nominated song on Jan. 13, which happened to be Liam’s 33rd birthday — which seems to confirm that the song is indeed about her ex.
In May, the song became the fastest in history to reach one billion streams on Spotify.
The singer shared her appreciation with her fans on Friday morning, captioning her video: “Thank you a billion. I love you.’
Miley released Flowers on January 12 and broke the Spotify record in 112 days, according to Billboard. It was played 96 million times in just one week after its release.
The song spent eight consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 11 chart.
Miley and Liam dated for almost a decade after meeting on the set of their 2010 film The Last Song, when she was just 17 and he was 19.
In September, Miley recalled her “undeniable chemistry” with the actor as they filmed the coming-of-age drama based on the novel by Nicolas Sparks.
“I think one of the elements that made the film so special was two very young people falling in love with each other, which happened both in real time and in real life,” she continued.
“That was the start of a ten-year relationship.”
Miley founded the nonprofit organization The Happy Happie Foundation in 2014 to rally youth in the fight against injustice, with a focus on youth homelessness and the LGBTQ community.
