Miles Russell, the 15-year-old Floridian who became the youngest player in Korn Ferry Tour history to make the cut, shot a 66 to finish in 20th place on Sunday at the Lecom Suncoast Classic in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.

And with the top 25 qualifying for the next tournament, that means the teenager will play at the Veritex Bank Championship at Texas Rangers Golf Club from Thursday.

‘It was a great week. It was amazing,” said Russell, as quoted by PGAtour.com. “Especially with my first one, you might get some weird looks, like, ‘Who’s that little kid at the shooting range?’ But you know, everyone was so nice and so helpful with everything.

“I just try to go with the flow and take it as it comes to me, and I just try to stay calm. I was able to make some good shots at the right times.”

Russell became the youngest player to make it in the 35-year history of the Korn Ferry Tour when he posted a 5-under 66 on Friday.

Russell opened with a 68 and left no doubt he would stick around for the entire four days. He made a pair of eagles on the front nine, one of them on the 282-yard, par-4 fourth hole, and then started the back nine with two consecutive birdies.

“If I play well I think I can compete with some of the better pros, but this week I played well and I think it showed a little bit,” Russell said. “But good play is always good, and it certainly gives us confidence to finish where we’re going to finish today.”

Russell is a freshman from Jacksonville Beach, Florida, who has been taking online classes since eighth grade.

The southpaw is already racking up some impressive credentials. He was the 2023 American Junior Golf Association Player of the Year, including his seven-shot victory in the Junior PGA Championship and the youngest winner of the Junior Players Championship.

Last month he nearly qualified for a PGA Tour event, losing in a playoff in a Monday qualifying match for the Puerto Rico Open. The Korn Ferry Tour is the PGA Tour’s premier development circuit.

China’s Guan Tianlang remains the youngest to make it in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event. He was 14 when he competed in the 2013 Masters, playing as an Asian-Pacific amateur champion.
