Miles Bridges ‘gaining traction’ on deal to return to Charlotte Hornets following a no-dispute plea in a domestic violence case that derailed his free agency over the summer

The Charlotte Hornets and restricted free agent Miles Bridges have gained ground in new contract talks and there is optimism that a deal could come in the relatively near future, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The bridges plead no opposition to a felony domestic violence case he was involved in during the offseason and received a three-year probation sentence.

When he finally signs a new contract, the NBA will likely impose a lengthy suspension pending the results of the league’s investigation.

The NBA suspended former Charlotte player Jeffrey Taylor for 24 games in 2014 after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence assault. Bridges initially faced three felony charges and originally pleaded not guilty to all three.

Last season, the 24-year-old forward had 20.2 points, 7 rebounds and 3.8 assists.

He was expected to receive a multi-year contract offer worth more than $100 million in free agency, which the Hornets likely would have matched to retain him.

After the change of situation after his arrest, he is now only talking to the Hornets about a new agreement to return.

The combination of not having Bridges along with injuries to key players like LaMelo Ball and Gordon Hayward have led Charlotte to an 8-24 record.

He has also gone so far as to file a restraining order against his estranged wife, alleging that she has repeatedly harassed him.

Bridges accused her of following him, stealing his dog and showing up unannounced at an AirBNB where he was staying. The former Michigan State star requests that Johnson stay 100 yards from him and refrain from contact with him or his dog.

Bridges claims that he has moved three times to try and avoid her.
