Mildura stabbing: Why Seb O’Halloran’s father always feared his motocross star son allegedly stabbed to death would meet a tragic end

The father of a rising teenage motocross star who was allegedly stabbed to death said he always feared his youngest son would meet a tragic end.

Seb O’Halloran, 19, was allegedly stabbed by a teenage girl outside a house in Limpidi Drive, Mildura, about 540km northwest of Melbourne, about 1.05am on Saturday after intervening in a fight.

His devastated father, Mark O’Halloran, said his son’s untimely death had not yet affected him.

‘I always thought about this day. I thought he was going to die in a car accident or on a motorcycle. I thought if he does that, I’ll be destroyed.

“Now that it’s happened… I’m doing well considering the circumstances,” O’Halloran told the newspaper Herald Sun.

Seb, a third-year construction apprentice, was known for his fearless dirt bike riding and loyal friendships within the Mildura community.

“He knew no fear; “if something scared or hurt him, he kept doing it until the fear went away,” his father said.

“If there was a jump he couldn’t do, he kept doing it until he mastered it.”

Victoria Police homicide detectives arrested a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old man after Seb’s death and later charged the girl with murder.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the incident have yet to be established, but (the) parties involved are known to each other,” police said in a statement.

It remains unclear how Seb became involved in the deadly altercation.

Early reports indicated that Seb may have intervened in an argument between the pair.

Paramedics rushed to the scene, but were unable to save him.

Enthusiasts have donated nearly $24,000 to one GoFundMe page set up for Seb’s family.

“Seb was a much-loved son, brother, grandson and buddy. “Everyone who knew him loved his personality, brash manners, his passion for motocross, hard work ethic and love for his family and friends,” the fundraiser said.

“Seb’s passing has shocked both his loved ones and our community and is something we are still trying to come to terms with.”

The girl accused of murder, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was remanded in custody until her next court hearing on November 9.

CCTV footage and DNA samples will form part of the case against the teenager Herald Sun reported.

Connor Byrnes, a friend of Seb, told the newspaper that he was one of the most selfless people he knew.

“He was the partner who put everyone else before himself and did everything he could to help them,” he said.

“I can’t thank him enough for being there for me when I needed him. I would do anything to see that huge grin on his face again.’

Tributes flowed on Monday as the shocked community in Mildura came to terms with the loss of another young life.

‘My world, my brother, my best friend, my guardian angel. I love you more than anything the universe has to offer,” pal Damon Burke wrote online.

Des O’Halloran said Seb’s family could not understand how the tragedy could happen.

“We are all shocked and saddened by his tragic passing. We are only 18 years old and have our whole lives ahead of us. We will never understand why this happened… just terrible,” he stated.
