Aaron Ramsdale made an emotional return to his former club on Saturday as he played for Southampton in their Premier League match against Arsenal.

The 26-year-old – who made 89 appearances for the Gunners before leaving for the Saints on a £25million contract in August – was in tears during the warm-up.

Ramsdale went on to make three saves against his old side, but that was not enough to prevent Southampton from slumping to a 3-1 defeat.

Arsenal fans chanted Ramsdale’s name towards the end of Saturday’s match.

After the final whistle, the goalkeeper was seen exchanging words with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and current Gunners stopper David Raya.
