Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta believes his side can still beat Bayern Munich after admitting they were under-par in Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final.

Leandro Trossard’s late equalizer made it 2-2 at the Emirates Stadium after goals from former gunner Serge Gnabry and ex-Tottenham striker Harry Kane canceled out Bukayo Saka’s early opener.

Ben White missed a glorious chance when Arsenal were 1-0 up and Arteta described it as a ‘critical moment’ in the match.

‘We scored a very good goal and then the moment of the game is when Ben (White) is in front of (Manuel) Neuer and if we make it 2-0 it would be a completely different game.

‘Then the ball is open, we gave it to the opponent and he scored. That caused some uncertainty.

‘The second goal is also unusual for us, but this is the Champions League, if you make a mistake you will be punished.

“A lot of things today we haven’t done to the standards we usually do, which allowed spaces to open up and they are very dangerous.

‘The Champions League, if you give something, they take it.’

Arsenal felt they should have been awarded a penalty in the dying moments when Saka appeared to have been fouled by Neuer, but the referee waved away protests and VAR upheld the decision.

Arteta said: ‘(The referee) didn’t say anything. They said they checked and it wasn’t a punishment.’
