Mikel Arteta said signing a player in January is not necessarily enough for Arsenal to win the Premier League title.

In light of Bukayo Saka’s injury, there has been much discussion about whether the Gunners should bring in a new signing (permanent or on loan) to beat Liverpool to the title.

He said: ‘Signing someone is not enough, that’s for sure, because with that contract you have to score, how many goals?’

‘It has to be anything: sign and then score twenty goals until the end and then you have a better chance?

“Maybe so, I don’t know, but I am very happy with the players we have and the number of goals we have scored. It’s more than enough to win a Premier League, so are our numbers, but the reality is someone is doing more, so we have to be better, that’s life.”

When asked about the feasibility of a January signing, Arteta added: ‘I don’t know because the focus is on the players we have. If there is something stronger on the market that we can afford and that we think will have a real impact in the team, we must always be open to that possibility because then we have the opportunity to put the team in the windows to improve.
