Mikel Arteta confirms William Saliba is still unavailable for selection due to injury

Mikel Arteta confirms William Saliba is still unavailable for squad due to injury… but Eddie Nketiah is fully fit for Arsenal’s upcoming London derby against West Ham

  • Arsenal will play against West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday
  • Saliba has been out of the Europa League since March after an injury
  • But academy product Eddie Nketiah trains with the squad all week

William Saliba will not be available for Arsenal’s game against West Ham on Sunday, Mikel Arteta confirms.

The defender has been out since stumbling against Sporting Lisbon last month, missing the league-leader’s last three matches.

The Frenchman’s continued absence from training is worrying fans and Arteta was unable to provide an entirely positive update at his press conference on Friday.

“He is evolving well and we hope we will have him available in the coming weeks,” Arteta commented of his player.

Striker Eddie Nketiah, on the other hand, is considered fully fit for the weekend derby.

The player has been out since early March after suffering an ankle injury in February that got worse as he continued to play.

Arsenal are three points ahead of Manchester City going into the weekend and will be determined to try to restore their bond after their 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield last weekend.

Arteta added that “luck” was the only thing guaranteed to play a role in the title race.

“You need luck in the title race,” he said.

“That luck and what you think is going to happen. Sometimes it’s about centimeters and they have to go your way.’
