Former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel is out of a job after missing the playoffs. One reason for this could be his physically imposing build.

Vrabel was a top coach at Tennessee a few years ago, but a hiring cycle has come and gone without anyone picking him up.

According to Dianna Russini of athleticsan unnamed NFL team executive offered a particular reason why that might be the case.

“I don’t think it suits him,” Russini said on The Athletic Football Show. “I don’t think he sat across from an owner who thought his style would work for what they were looking for.

“You know I had a general manager at the Senior Bowl tell me about Vrabel’s physical build? That he is a very big person and can be very intimidating to people in an organization who become part of these decisions. And that is a factor.

‘What, I laughed, I said, “Stop! That’s not something that’s real. Who cares what someone physically looks like?” And he said, “I’m just telling you that I’ve been in rooms and someone’s physical presence can make a difference.”

Russini added that this was “not the reason” Vrabel is out of a job “despite it being a very entertaining theory.”

Vrabel is 6-foot-4, 261 pounds and was a former player for the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs.

He played from 1997 to 2010 before retiring with three Super Bowl rings as one of the key contributors to the early years of the Patriots dynasty.

Vrabel is not the only head coach who will not be picked up for a job next season. Bill Belichick is the most notable name among free agent coaches.
