Mike Tyson’s former coach Teddy Atlas thinks judge who controversially scored Floyd Mayweather vs Canelo Alvarez should be given a draw
- CJ Ross controversially scored a draw between Floyd Mayweather and Canelo in 2013
- Ross stepped down from her role as a judge in the immediate aftermath
- However, Teddy Atlas thinks that wasn’t enough and says she should be in jail
Teddy Atlas believes judge CJ Ross should have been jailed for scoring a controversial 2013 draw between Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez.
In a fight that Mayweather appeared to have won comfortably, Ross submitted a scorecard of 114-114, despite her colleagues Craig Metcalfe and Dave Moretti seeing it wide in favor of ‘TBE’.
Ross came under immense scrutiny for her score and informed the Nevada State Athletic Commission that she would step down from her role immediately.
A year earlier, she was involved in another scoring scandal when she and Duane Ford awarded Timothy Bradley a contentious victory over Manny Pacquiao.
For legendary trainer Atlas, Ross’s assessment during Mayweather’s 45th professional appearance was the last straw in an infamous 22-year stint in the sport.

“He (Canelo) lost every round to Mayweather except with that judge (CJ Ross) who should be in jail,” Atlas said when asked about the match on his “The Fight with Teddy Atlas” podcast.
Shortly after she dropped out of judging, Ross came out and tried to defend her scorecard in the press.
“People don’t understand that all three judges could have ended any fight and ended up with the same score. Let’s say 116-112,” she said World boxing news.
“But if you look at the committee’s score sheet, you’d probably see that they arrived at those scores in several rounds.
“I have to think about the source. Because unless the critic sat in my chair and watched the fight from the angles I had and could feel or see the power and the flat and missed punches that a camera can’t see, it’s not a real criticism.”
Ross has since moved from Nevada and now lives in Ohio, where she takes care of her family business.
For a time she was expected to move on to MMA judging, but the move never materialized.
