One of the most iconic boxers in sports history praised Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis ahead of Saturday night’s highly anticipated prize fight against Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas.

In an interview with TMZ, Mike Tyson spoke about the comparisons between him and the current WBA lightweight champion.

Despite not weighing nearly as much as ‘Iron’ Mike, Tyson said Davis’ fighting style is similar to his – especially when it comes to how they throw punches.

Although Davis is much shorter (5-foot-5.5) than Garcia (5-foot-10), Tyson said he shouldn’t have any problems in the ring.

ā€œTank is very comfortable fighting bigger people because when he fights he catapults himself and pushes himself into the air,ā€ explains Tyson.

“So it makes it very difficult to stop his attack because it’s very uncomfortable when you’re in the air, normally you don’t have any power.

ā€œBut the way he catapults himself is almost like firing a gun. He flies straight at you with every ounce of power he has.’

Tyson continued, saying, “I understood them now when they say he fights like Mike Tyson because he flies through the air, which is normally bad positioning, you have no power in the air.”

“But to him and me, our firmness to the ground, as I said before, catapults us as if we were shot down like a bow and arrow and the force is unstoppable.”

But Tyson says Davis isn’t a one-dimensional fighter, saying he’s got plenty of tricks up his sleeve.

“Tank has a lot of arsenal, he has a lot of ammunition in his arsenal and he can box,” said the former heavyweight champion.

“He’s a great boxer, he’s a great, aggressive fighter, he’s got a great punch and he’s an all-around good fighter. They call him 5’5′ for short, but he can pretty much do it all.’

Tyson also had credit for Garcia – the current betting underdog in the fight – and the powerful left hook that led him to his 23-0 record.

“He throws his left hook, but he also throws it in combinations,” Tyson explained. So it’s not just a blow. Occasionally he throws it one by one, but really it’s in combinations.’
