Mike Tindall makes a playful quip about his wife Zara as he reveals he first met the late Queen as a teenager during a visit to his old school

Mike Tindall has revealed that he first met the late Queen as a teenager while visiting his old school.

On the latest episode of The Good, The Bad & The Rugby, the former rugby star explained that he met Queen Elizabeth II long before he joined the royal family at the age of 13.

The husband of King Charles’ niece Zara, stopped by his former school, Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Yorkshire, to meet his childhood rugby coach, Trevor.

Mike, aged 44, a father of three, gave viewers a tour of the school, which was established in 1591 by Royal Charter of Queen Elizabeth I.

But it was Queen Elizabeth II who met Mike as a child during her 1992 400th anniversary visit to the school, a moment he “remembers very well.”

The former rugby union star reminisced about his school days and then made a humorous comment about his wife Zara.

Mike showed viewers a photo of Queen Elizabeth during her visit to the school in 1991.

While Mike didn’t appear to be in the photo, he reminisced about the event and said, “I think I met her (Queen Elizabeth II) in biology.”

The rugby star then made a humorous comment about his wife of 12 years, Zara.

He joked, “I’m not quite sure I told her back then I was going to marry Zara, it could have come from my mouth, I’m not quite sure.”

The former England rugby player met Zara during England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup winning campaign in Australia.

The couple married in 2011 in a low-key ceremony in Scotland.

The video release comes just days after Mike joked that he had ‘more beer goggles than most’ when he appeared on Good Morning Britain today.

He appeared on the program last week to discuss his podcast tour and his new ITV reality show Grand Slammers.

Mike was a guest shortly after a snippet about beer goggles, a term coined to describe how the influence of alcohol can suddenly make someone seem much more attractive.

After hosts Rob Rinder and Charlotte Hawkin jokingly asked if he had any comments on the subject, Mike said: “We’ve all been there, me probably more than most.”

Mike appeared on the program and was described as an ‘England rugby legend and a royal husband’.

He started by telling the presenters, ‘I was a little worried when I came in. And then there was that serious discussion about the beer goggles, which made me feel much more comfortable in the environment.’

He is believed to have had a good relationship with Zara’s grandmother, previously paying tribute to the late queen on his podcast

Mike is known for his playful and party ways, previously revealing how he and Zara had a “boozy” first date.

Meanwhile, the couple also partied until 2am the night before the king’s coronation earlier this summer.

He is believed to have had a good relationship with Zara’s grandmother, previously paying tribute to the late queen on his podcast.

Last September, he said, “It was sad, emotional but happy. Great in some ways. To see the family come so close together overnight.

‘You never predict. As a 96-year-old lady, you know it’s going to happen, but you’re never ready when it does.

“When I saw what Zara had to go through, it was clear that she loved the Queen more than anything else. Their connection with horses, they had a real bond around that.

“It’s like the world has somehow lost its grandmother.”

He continued, “I also very much regret not asking her so many more things… If you have any nervousness when you sit there, go for the lucky chair next to her.”

“Going back through history and everything she might have seen; 15 prime ministers, I don’t know how many presidents.
