Mike Tindall jokes about having beer goggles as he says ‘we’ve all been there’ but he’s had them ‘more than most’

Mike Tindall joked that he had ‘beer glasses more than most’ when he appeared on Good Morning Britain today.

The husband of King Charles’ niece Zara and former rugby international, 44, appeared on the schedule earlier today to discuss his podcast tour and his new ITV reality show Grand Slammers.

The father-of-three was a guest shortly after a segment about beer goggles, a term coined to describe how the influence of alcohol can suddenly make someone seem much more attractive.

After hosts Rob Rinder and Charlotte Hawkin jokingly asked if he had any comments on the subject, Mike said: “We’ve all been there, me probably more than most.”

It comes amid a busy week for the former England captain, who attended a gin launch in London yesterday with the co-hosts of his podcast The Good, the Bad and the Rugby.

The husband of King Charles’ niece Zara and former rugby international, 44, appeared on the schedule earlier today to discuss his podcast tour and his new ITV reality show Grand Slammers.

Mike appeared on the program and was described as an ‘England rugby legend and a royal husband’.

He started by telling the presenters, ‘I was a little worried when I came in. And then there was that serious discussion about the beer goggles, which made me feel much more comfortable in the environment.’

Mike is known for his playful and party ways, previously revealing how he and Zara had a “boozy” first date.

Meanwhile, the couple also partied until 2am the night before the king’s coronation earlier this summer.

Elsewhere on Good Morning Britain, he discussed his podcast, The Good, the Bad and the Rugby, which he says is ‘a celebration of the differences between players and characters’ in the sport.

Mike and his co-hosts will embark on a 17-date tour that kicks off end of October and continues through November and December.

According to an online description, Mike will be on stage alongside his fellow podcast presenters James Haskell and Alex Payne, “sharing their own World Cup stories and recap France 2023 action… In their very own style.”

Mike said, “Last year we did a live tour that we didn’t think we’d sell tickets to, and we actually sold a lot.”

In the meantime he also touched on his new project Grand Slammers.

Along with other players from the England rugby union team that won the 2003 World Cup, Mike will enter HMP The Mount Prison and attempt to build and train a team of prisoners strong enough to compete against a formidable rival, the Australians. .

The other players entering the facility – which is home to one of the few remaining rugby pitches in an English adult male prison – include Captain Martin Johnson, Jonny Wilkinson, Lawrence Dallaglio, Phil Vickery, Jason Robinson, Will Greenwood, Ben Cohen, Mike Tindall and Matt Dawson.

According to the production company behind the programme, which will feature two 90-minute shows, the series will offer a “vivid insight into the power of sport to change lives, as England’s legends open up to prisoners about how rugby had a profound impact on them during formative periods and gave them a purpose in life’.

Describing the show, Mike explained, “It’s pretty intimidating for any team that goes through it.

“The number of fences you have to go through and the wings to get onto the field.”

He said he was “used to go into jail by the end of the show,” adding, “We were used to getting a little abuse out the window or something.”

Meanwhile, he also said he would like to instill sports in his three children, Mia, Lena and Lucas, saying, “The work ethic, wanting to live a healthier lifestyle, that competition.”

He also said he was eager to teach them how to be a ‘good loser’, adding that this was something he had struggled with during his earlier years as a rugby player.

The new tour and appearance on the new reality show comes after a busy year for Mike, who is believed to have bagged £600,000 for his advertising on Amazon and Domino’s, as well as his appearance on I’m A Celebrity.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams previously said Charles would “keep an eye” on Mike.

He added: “King Charles needs to think about where to draw the line today…Mike and Zara were never working royals.

However, his advertisement for a pizza brand and his stay in the jungle raises the question: is something off limits and should it be? Of course they have to earn, but are there limits to how?’

He said: “The industry of endorsing royals and celebrities and their participation in unusual ventures has had an unfortunate history.

“Anyone who remembers It’s A Royal Knockout cringes inwardly.

‘It was terrible tripe! Princess Anne’s son Peter Phillips and his ex-wife Autumn Kelly were reportedly paid £500,000 for a marriage deal in Hello! This portrayed the royal family in a totally unacceptable way.

“King Charles will no doubt be keeping a close eye on Mike Tindall’s latest plans, including his boyish ad for Domino’s Pizza and his likely high-viewing appearance on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!

“Both Mike Tindall and his wife Zara, who is 20th in line to the throne, are hugely popular. Their contributions to rugby and equestrian sports are well known.

“But are they royals or celebrities, or somehow both? They are top performers, we know that. King Charles must ask himself where to draw the line today.’

Meanwhile, brand expert Nick Ede said: ‘With this kind of ad deal, Mike Tindall will earn around £300,000 for the Domino’s ad. For the Amazon, which it’s not in that much, about £150,000.

“He maximizes his appeal and the fact that there are rugby matches coming up and all the media surrounding the royal family and I’m a celebrity. It’s a winning move for him and his appeal.”
