Mike McCarthy opens up on ’embarrassing’ tablet smash incident as Dallas Cowboys’ season spirals

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy admitted he felt “embarrassed” after throwing a tablet on the ground during an outburst last weekend.

Dallas – after going 12-5 last year – has regressed significantly as they are just 3-5 heading into Week 10.

And McCarthy’s frustrations boiled over during a loss to the Falcons last Sunday when the team was stopped on a fourth-and-1.

McCarthy responded to the play by slamming his tablet on the ground – a move he said there is “no excuse for” on Wednesday.

“I’m ashamed of it,” McCarthy told reporterS. ‘It’s something that happens at my age [60 years old]there is clearly no excuse for that.

‘That’s not what I represent. I feel ashamed as the leader of this team… That was definitely a moment I wanted to have back.”

Dallas would ultimately lose the game – and quarterback Dak Prescott to injury – as their season continued to unravel.

The team is already 3.5 games behind the NFC East-leading Commanders, who are a surprising 7-2 with rookie Jayden Daniels.

“We’ve had five losses and so we obviously understand where that gets us and what it takes,” McCarthy said after the 27-21 loss to Atlanta. ‘We have to win.’

That mission will be even more difficult with Prescott sidelined as the quarterback suffered a hamstring injury in the loss to the Falcons.

Owner Jerry Jones told us 105.3 The fan in Dallas that it was “likely” the quarterback would be placed on the injured reserve list, which would rule him out for at least four games.

The Cowboys hope to kickstart their season with a win against the Eagles this weekend.
