A migrant has been electrocuted in a human fireball after climbing on top of a Eurostar train and being hit by a charge from an overhead wire.

The man unexpectedly crossed the tracks of two platforms at Gare du Nord station in Paris last night, shortly before 10 p.m. Le Parisien reported.

He then climbed onto the roof of a train heading for England. The victim died of electrocution and the entire scene was captured on surveillance footage, according to police.

The man can be seen standing up before bursting into flames, the publication reported.

The fire brigade quickly arrived on the scene and was able to extinguish the flames around 10:20 p.m.

Emergency services tried to save the man, but he was pronounced dead within fifteen minutes, Le Parisien reports.

Police have identified the man as a migrant. Due to the severity of his burns, he could not be identified.

The incident did not cause any problems for train traffic.

In 2017, another man was electrocuted to death at Gare du Nord while climbing onto the roof of a Eurostar train.

The migrant died of horrific burns, meaning he could not be identified.

In July 2015 the same thing happened to an Egyptian teenager at the station. The force of the electric shock knocked him down and left him in a life-threatening condition.

Last month it was announced that the number of Eurostar passengers has risen by a fifth, despite many travelers between London and Paris still turning down the train for cheaper flights.

The rail operator said it carried 18.6 million passengers last year – a 22 per cent increase on the previous 12 months and a return to pre-Covid levels last seen in 2019.

Eurostar is generally a more expensive method of traveling from Great Britain to the direct locations of Paris, Lille, Brussels, Amsterdam and Rotterdam compared to flying.
