Mighell, Innisfail: Man, 51, charged with domestic violence murder of woman, 51, after she was found with a stab wound at Queensland property

Detectives have charged a man following the death of a woman who was stabbed in Far North Queensland. They claim it was a domestic violence incident.

Emergency services were called to Mighell, south of Innisfail, at around 4.15pm on Friday after the 51-year-old woman ran from her car to a nearby house for help.

She later died from a fatal stab wound and police confirmed Saturday that they have charged a 51-year-old man with her murder.

Police said Saturday that the two knew each other before the incident and that “an ongoing investigation is underway to determine what additional offenses the man may have committed after leaving the scene.”

It is understood the man fled the area in the woman’s car and shortly afterwards collided with a truck on the Bruce Highway near Sandy Pocket.

The truck driver was unharmed.

The man then allegedly also tried to steal another car.

Residents were urged to avoid the area while officers assessed the situation and the highway was closed until Friday evening.
