Mid-air emergency on Bonza flight as severe turbulence hits and crew members are injured

Bonza crew members have been injured after their plane experienced air turbulence during a regional flight in Queensland.

Flight AB 626 was en route from Rockhampton to the Sunshine Coast on Tuesday afternoon when the aircraft encountered unexpected and severe turbulence.

The aircraft landed at its destination without further incident.

Australia’s newest discount airline insists none of the passengers on board were injured.

“A flight from Rockhampton to the Sunshine Coast experienced unexpected and severe turbulence, causing injuries to some members of Bonza’s cabin crew,” Bonza chief executive Tim Jordan said.

‘At this time no customers have been injured and cabin crew are currently being assessed by medical professionals.

“Our priority is always the safety of our staff and customers and we will support our cabin crew legends when they need it.”

It is unclear how many Bonza employees were injured during the incident.

The aircraft is now out of service as it undergoes inspections at the airline’s Sunshine Coast base.

The incident forced the cancellation of a later flight to Mildura on the NSW-Victoria border.

Bonza has apologized for the inconvenience caused and has provided full refunds to affected passengers.

Australia’s newest low-cost airline took to the skies for the first time in January.

Within seven months, Bonza had reduced the number of routes from 27 routes to 22 due to a lack of demand.

The airline will no longer fly to Sunshine Coast to Coffs Harbour, Sunshine Coast to Port Macquarie, Sunshine Coast to Tamworth, Cairns to Mackay and Toowoomba to the Whitsunday Coast.
