Microsoft’s Surface showcase on October 12 is just around the corner and with it will come a slew of announcements of brand new devices, from PCs to laptops to tablets and more. One possible reveal is the next entry in the Surface Pro series of tablets, the Surface Pro 10.
The Surface Pro 8 helped revive a series that was largely content with very few changes across the board (possibly apart from the Surface Pro updated aesthetic design . That said, there are hopes that the Pro 10 will innovate even further, or at least be a clear and strong improvement over its predecessors, and become one of the best 2-in-1 laptops.
There’s not much we know so far, other than the fact that unlike the Pro 9, it will most likely only have one configuration, a 13th Gen Intel CPU, or it will have both Intel and ARM versions have postponed the latter until 2024. There also seems to be word spreading about an 11-inch version of the Pro 10 launching with the 13-inch, which would serve to compete with Apple’s own iPad variants.
Now that we know some of the basics, let’s take a look at what else the Surface Pro 10 has to offer.
Microsoft Surface Pro 10: Get straight to the point
- What is it? The new Microsoft Surface Pro tablet
- When is it out? Rumor has it sometime in late September or October 2023
- What will it cost? Probably starting at $1,299
Microsoft Surface Pro 10: release date and price
Microsoft is known for its rigid annual release schedule when it comes to the Surface Pro series, which has usually been the third quarter of every year since 2013. The only time this was broken was of course in 2020 thanks to the prolonged pandemic. impact on the supply chain and labor, causing delays in production.
The main Surface Pro 9 model was released in October 2022, along with the Surface Pro 9 5G, and judging by rumors and a special Microsoft event in September for journalists in New York City that is coming up, we could see it as early as September 21 can see. If not, it will most likely be sometime around October 12 after the Microsoft event debuts.
As for pricing, there’s no official word and rumors are sparse at best. The best we can do is judge based on previous trends, where the price has gone up with each release. The base model Surface Pro 9 started at $999.99 / £1,099 / AU$1,649 and the 5G version was $1,299.99 / £1,299 / AU$2,599 (with more RAM). Most likely, the base version of the Pro 10 will start at $1,299.99.
Microsoft Surface Pro 10: design
The 13-inch Pro 10 will most likely have the same 2880 x 1920 resolution and 3:2 aspect ratio PixelSense Flow touchscreen as the Pro 9, just as the Pro 9 carried over from the Pro 8. will most likely have the same smooth and rounded edges, along with the stand and attachable Type Cover keyboard always sold separately.
But what is much more interesting is a report from Windows Central which claims that the Surface Pro 10 will include two models, the standard 13-inch version and an 11-inch. It’s similar to what Apple is doing with its own iPad Pro, which could mean Microsoft is trying to compete directly with its tablet rival.
According to that same report, the 11-inch Surface Pro is codenamed Luxor and will be similar in shape and size to the Surface Go, albeit with thinner bezels like its larger sibling. Of course, the 11-inch Surface Pro will do the same. also be more powerful, with a better 120Hz screen.”
Windows 11 was updated in 2022 with a new tablet mode for devices 11 inches and smaller. One of the new features minimizes the taskbar from view when an app is open, while the other automatically opens the app in full screen to better emulate Android and iOS tablets. There are plans for even more tablet optimization updates in 2024, which would also explain why Microsoft wants to release an 11-inch device.
Microsoft Surface Pro 10: Performance
Currently, there are no firm reports on what to expect when it comes to specs and performance for the Surface Pro 10. Amid some conflicting rumors, there aren’t even any confirmations on whether the Pro 10 will once again run both ARM and Intel variants. with the Pro 9, although we can assume it will include at least a 13th generation Intel chip.
Unfortunately, Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon processors, which would have been perfect for the Pro 10, won’t be released until December 2023 or sometime in 2024, far too late for the next Surface Pro. This also supports the idea of an Intel-only configuration or a delayed ARM version, as we still have no confirmation of an ARM variant at this time.
