Microsoft releases Windows App remote desktop software for macOS, iOS and Android
Microsoft has launched an app for macOS, iOS, Android devices, web browsers, and Windows PCs. The app allows users to run Windows and Windows apps as a platform for streaming a copy of Windows from various sources.
Featuring a customizable home screen, multi-monitor support, and USB redirection, the app allows the customer to use local devices such as printers, webcams, and storage devices as if they were connected directly to a cloud PC.
“This unified app acts as a secure gateway to connect to Windows via Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, Remote Desktop, Remote Desktop Services, Microsoft Dev Box, and more,” said Hilary Braun, Senior Product Manager for Windows 365 at Microsoft.
Everything in one place
According to Microsoft, the app not only consolidates multiple services, but also offers better device management for IT admins, easier account switching, and includes support for both Microsoft Relayed RDP Shortpath and Windows 365 for frontline workers.
By providing a gateway that allows you to connect to Windows via multiple services, the app aims to improve the user experience by providing a single, streamlined interface.
Not everyone is excited about the new app, most referring to the confusing name. People are especially frustrated because finding solutions or help for Windows apps becomes much more complicated as there are so many services with the same name.
This comes just days after an announcement that the Windows 11 app gets some major upgradeswhich hopes that apps will use less memory and load 50% faster. The company hopes that updates will bring better performance to a range of apps and improve the user experience across the board.
