Microsoft Office 365 will soon make it a lot easier to flag security threats

Microsoft is making it a lot easier to report potential security threats with an upgrade to its Office 365 platform.
The company has unveiled an updated “submission” experience for Microsoft Defender for Office 365 that should provide users with a more intuitive way to flag potential issues.
The move will sort user-reported messages on Microsoft Defender into separate tabs depending on the nature of the threat, making it easier for security teams and administrators to quickly pick up and address the most pressing issues.

In his entry on the official Microsoft 365 roadmap (opens in new tab)Microsoft notes that Office 365 users can flag a number of categories, including Phishing, Spam, Junk, and more, depending on their experience.
The update is said to be still in development for now, but it has an expected general availability date of October 2022, meaning a wider launch shouldn’t be far off.
Once launched, the service will be available to Office 365 web users worldwide, giving customers a significant security boost.
The news is the latest upgrade to Defender and Office 365 as Microsoft continues to improve the platform.
The company announced a new version of the platform as part of the Windows 11 update with numerous improvements, including making it easier to manage the security of multiple devices (for laptops, tablets and smartphones) from one place.
Microsoft Defender for Business, the enterprise-focused edition of the platform, also became generally available to enterprises around the world earlier this year, helping to prioritize the most pressing risks to their organization.
The extensions may be necessary, as recent research claimed that a quarter of IT professionals do not know or do not believe that Microsoft 365 data could be affected by a ransomware attack.
Hornetsecurity’s research also suggested that 40% of IT professionals who use Microsoft 365 in their organization admit they don’t have a recovery plan in case their data is compromised by a ransomware attack.
