Microsoft continues to add new features to Windows 10 as the operating system gets another Windows 11 capability

Remember when Microsoft said Windows 10 would be featureless and was essentially on ice except for minor tweaks? Well, the reversal of that policy is now clear enough, as another incoming feature for Windows 11 is also coming to its predecessor.

Namely a ‘richer weather experience’ – including dynamic, interactive weather updates – on the lock screen.

This is something that has already been noticed during testing for Windows 11 and now in the latest preview build for Windows 10 (version 19045.3992).

It means that when you hover over the weather on the lock screen, further information is revealed. Additionally, if you click on the weather map, the weather forecast from the MSN website will appear (in Microsoft’s Edge browser, as you might guess).

This is the default setting for the lock screen when the status is set to “none,” Microsoft explains, but you can disable it if you wish.

Analysis: Unfreezing the function freeze

Okay, so this isn’t a huge deal as a feature, but it’s a new bit of functionality nonetheless and not a minor tweak. The other addition since Microsoft announced a feature freeze for Windows 10 was of course the introduction of Copilot – and you can’t get a bigger step than that.

If Windows Central (Zac Bowden), who noted this latest development, points out that late last year, when Copilot for Windows 10 was announced, Microsoft said it was reviewing its decision to retire features for the older operating system and was planning “additional investments ‘ to do. in the operating system. It looks like this is happening, and we can probably expect even more features to be added to Windows 10 in 2024.

Additionally, Bowden has heard through the grapevine that Microsoft will reopen the Windows 10 Beta channel to testers, which is a clear suggestion that more features are on the way for the operating system – as they have to go through a full testing process. process.
