Jim Harbaugh has remained coy about his coaching future ahead of Michigan's national championship game against Washington.

Harbaugh, 60, is in his ninth season with the Wolverines and has a chance to win the school's first national championship since 1997.

But the ex-49ers coach has been tied to several NFL jobs this coaching cycle, and he declined to commit long-term to Michigan at media day for the national championship in Texas.

“I couldn't be happier to be here,” Harbaugh said via USA todaywhen asked if the outcome of Monday's game would affect his interest in the NFL.

'This is amazing. They do everything big in Texas. This is cool. This is exactly where we want to be. This is what we have been working towards.'

Harbaugh was also asked if he had assured Michigan brass that he would be back, adding, “There is a calendar,” he said. 'Next week I'd like to talk about the future. I hope to have one. How about that? A future? I hope to have one.”

According to NFL insider Ian RapoportMichigan offered Harbaugh a 10-year deal worth $125 million last month.

However, it also included a clause that would prohibit Harbaugh from discussing or accepting an NFL job through the 2024 season. That would only be a one-season stipulation.

Harbaugh, who previously took the 49ers to the Super Bowl, appears to have no shortage of suitors at the NFL level.

The Chargers and Bears, who both missed the playoffs, are both considered potential landing spots for him.

That includes New England, where longtime coach Bill Belichick could be fired after another disappointing season.

Harbaugh reportedly interviewed for the Broncos head coaching vacancy last year, while in 2022 he confirmed he had spoken with the Vikings.

Harbaugh was suspended by the Big Ten for the final three games of the regular season after his program was involved in an alleged sign-stealing scheme.
