Michigan State offensive lineman Spencer Brown has been criticized by fans online for slamming his helmet into the back of a rival player’s head during the weekend’s crushing 49-0 loss to Michigan, with many now awaiting a suspension.
Brown – a fifth-year senior for the Spartans – was ultimately ejected from Saturday’s game for unsportsmanlike conduct after hitting Braiden McGregor – a defensive target for the Wolverines.
Early in the game in the second half, both players struggled at the line of scrimmage, when MSU quarterback Katin Houser was intercepted by Mike Sainristil for a pick-6.
But as Michigan’s defensive back headed toward the end zone, Brown suddenly tackled his opponent to the ground before deciding to throw himself helmet-first into the back of McGregor’s head as he lay flat.
The move was eventually noticed by the referees.
