Michelle Pfeiffer Talks About Reprising Her Role In The Marvel Blockbuster

Michelle Pfeiffer has reprized her role as Janet van Dyne in the upcoming Marvel blockbuster Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania.

The 64-year-old actress had to train herself to deal with many action sequences as Janet, who has spent 30 years lost in the quantum realm.

Pfeiffer, who recently spoke about stepping back from the Hollywood spotlight, called the build-up “a lot of fun.” She added: ‘I like to do that kind of thing. I liked that Janet is a bit mean.

Michael Douglas, who plays her on-screen husband Hank Pym, commented that he is “in awe of my amazing wife Janet, and what a great shape she’s had in those 30 years she’s been in the quantum realm.”

The 78-year-old actor went on to speculate on “what he must have been eating and drinking, what else he was doing there.”

The film will kick off Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, followed by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 5, 2023), The Marvels (July 28, 2023), Captain America: New World Order (July 3, 2023), May 2024), Thunderbolts (July 26, 2024) and Blade (September 6, 2024).

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania follows Scott, Cassie, Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), Hank Pym, and Janet Van Dyne as they explore the quantum realm.

The film also stars Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, Randall Park as Jimmy Woo, William Jackson Harper as Quaz, Katy M. O’Brian as Jentorra, and Bill Murray as Krylar.

The film is directed by Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp director Peyton Reed from a script by Jeff Loveness (Rick and Morty).

Box office analysts are projecting an opening weekend debut somewhere in the $96 million to $131 million range, which could make it the first film of 2023 to open above $100 million.

Pfeiffer is coming off her role as Betty Ford on the Showtime anthology series The First Lady.

She is currently attached to star in Wild Four O’Clocks from writer Peter Craig (Top Gun: Maverick), who will be making his directorial debut.

The film follows two young brothers who are placed in the care of their estranged grandmother, as she must learn to care for children with a broken heart but strong will.

“I was sort of somewhere in between, too. I didn’t feel like it really was. A leading lady. She wasn’t a grandmother yet, but I, I wasn’t like a naive either,’ she explained as part of her reasoning.

“I was having babies and relocating the family (to Northern California)…I really underestimated what that meant,” she said.

The three-time Oscar nominee said she returned to acting after being urged to do so by her children, Claudia, 29, and Henry, 28, whom she shares with her husband, writer-producer David E. Kelley, 66 years old.

‘They said, ‘Mom, are you ever going to go back to work?’ I said, “What do you mean? Isn’t it great that I’m home?”

“Honestly, I didn’t even realize how much time had passed and I was reading stuff along the way and there wasn’t anything I really liked enough to want to leave home.”
