Michelle Obama’s ‘secret mission’ in Salt Lake City revealed

Former First Lady Michelle Obama went on another “secret mission” yesterday, this time in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Obama stopped by King’s English Bookshop yesterday to pick up a copy of her 2022 book, The Light We Carry – a New York Times and USA Today bestseller.

The author walked into the store wearing a dark hat similar to the item she wore during her Missouri Target shopping adventure.

This time she wore a matching black jacket and sunglasses Instagram videohoping no one would recognize her.

Her disguise didn’t work, as customers started taking photos and videos right after she finished signing some of her 2022 books.

Obama’s disguise may not have mattered, especially since store co-owner Anne Holman already knew she was coming.

Anne Holman, co-owner of King’s English Bookshop, revealed she knew about Obama’s planned visit a week before she walked in

According to The Salt Lake TribuneHolman learned that Obama would visit the store a week before her arrival for security preparations.

“When she actually gets there, it really happens, it’s just so cool because she’s Michelle Obama, but she’s also someone you can really become friends with,” Holman said.

Obama didn’t tell viewers how she chose to enter this bookshelf, but she was excited to wear her “trusty dusty disguise” and “beautiful sunglasses.”

She almost immediately began signing copies of The Light We Carry and touted another book called Our Hidden Conversations: What Americans Again Think About Race and Identity by Michele Norris.

Customers in the background stared and whispered as she leafed through the book, but Obama didn’t seem to notice.

She and the camerawoman also looked at clothes in the bookstore, and the former First Lady found a framed photo of her husband, Barack Obama, hanging under a shelf.

She bought more than one item at the bookstore, much to the happiness of the employees.

“I received some great reading material for my upcoming travels, a beautiful robe – consider that a very successful adventure,” Obama said.

Obama completed the ‘secret mission’ in Salt Lake City just weeks after making a special trip to a Target store in Saint Louis, Missouri

Obama’s first mission took place in Saint Louis after she spoke at the National Council for Mental Wellness.

While walking into a Target, the acclaimed author signed copies of The Light We Carry while wearing a neon yellow sweatshirt and sunglasses.

She then grabbed a basket and bought a variety of items, including a T-shirt, a matching pajama set and a pet toy.

The Target employee seemed very calm around Obama, but she didn’t seem to recognize her.

However, she complimented her hair as Obama was ready to walk away.

Obama’s King’s English Bookshop video was flooded with comments after she posted it on Instagram, including one response from the store itself.

‘Thank you for your visit! We are honored and appreciate your incredible support of bookstores and literacy,” the bookstore said.

Others have praised the bookstore itself, with one person thanking Obama for visiting Salt Lake City.

“I love you… In my opinion the best first lady ever and you are so fun and real and exciting and adventurous and kind and compassionate,” one Instagram user wrote.

A few Instagrammers wrote how excited they were to buy the book, with one person hoping to “get their hands on a signed copy.”
