Michael Strahan’s Fox Sports colleague Jay Glazer unloads on national anthem controversy

Jay Glazer has launched an impassioned defense of Michael Strahan after the former NFL star came under fire for failing to place his hand over his heart during the national anthem.

On Sunday, Strahan was on the Fox Sports panel — alongside the likes of Terry Bradshaw and Rob Gronkowski — as they broadcast from the San Diego Naval Base ahead of Veterans Day.

When the national anthem was played and a large number of soldiers surrounded the crew, Strahan held his hands in front of him, sparking outrage among many fans.

Fox Sports faced calls to fire the former defensive end, but Glazer responded to the “angry crowd” criticism.

“I just saw @MichaelStrahan’s criticism,” he wrote on social media.

“Let me tell you this, I don’t know if I have a friend more proud of his military roots than Michael, who grew up on an Army base and constantly talks about what he learned from his father, Major Gene Strahan, and how his time there he formed it. I heard it CONSTANTLY, still!’.

Glazer also alleged that Strahan has given generously to military causes.

“Without fanfare, I personally saw him donate thousands of dollars worth of clothing to veterans, including many homeless veterans, as well as clothing for veterans for job interviews,” he continued.

“I know people are quick to get angry these days, but maybe first: how is THIS a new idea? ASK him if he’s protesting anything. When you protest, you want people to know, don’t you?’

Glazer added, “He was NOT, he just got caught up in how beautiful the whole moment was during the national anthem and didn’t think about it. Before you form an angry mob, ask the guy, but maybe find out what he’s done for our veterans over the years.”
