Michael Slater’s tragic downfall has taken a new turn after the former cricket star was accused of domestic abuse again.
The case comes as Slater, 54, remains locked up in one of Brisbane’s most notorious prisons after being denied bail.
The former Australian opening batsman’s case was heard in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday, where he faces domestic violence charges arising from a series of alleged incidents on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
Court documents filed during Slater’s bail application on April 16 allege the 54-year-old allegedly attacked and strangled a woman who was checking on his welfare at his Noosa Heads home on December 6 last year.
Police allege Slater broke into a woman’s home on April 12 before confronting her.
Slater was also charged with stalking after allegedly sending about 300 messages calling the woman an “escort” and a “slut” before threatening suicide on voicemail.
He was charged with more than a dozen offences, including assault occasioning bodily harm, suffocation and strangulation, common assault, entering at night while on a break, unlawful stalking and breaching bail conditions.
The court heard that Slater denied the allegations of violence and would defend them.

According to News Corpattorney Troy Krahenbring appeared in court by telephone Friday and asked for a full summary of the evidence.
Slater was not required to appear in court.
The court heard that Slater was charged with two additional offenses between December 10, 2023 and March 13 this year, meaning he faces a total of 25 charges.
Police prosecutor Jeanette Grigoris confirmed that the new charges related to an alleged choking offence and common assault.
The court was told Slater was currently in the Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre in the south-western Brisbane suburb of Darra.
Legal aid lawyer Michael Robinson said in April that his client planned to stay in a rehabilitation centre in Sydney if he was released.
“There is documented evidence before the court that shows he will be outside the jurisdiction of the court, in a psychiatric facility, and actually do something to address the (alleged) behavior,” Robinson said.
In April, bail was refused by Magistrate Raelene Ellis after police alleged Slaterhit saw a woman at his Noosa Heads home after she visited the property out of concern for his welfare.
Police allege Slater then strangled her in the wash as she tried to get away.
It is further alleged that Slater threatened to kill her as she handled an empty vodka bottle.
On Friday, Magistrate Patricia Kirkman-Scroope adjourned Slater’s final cases until July 19.
