The relationship update means Mick faces an uncertain F1 future after leaving Mercedes
“Because of his work in the simulator, testing different cars and being part of the track team, we couldn’t have asked more from him.
‘From day one he fitted into the team easily and has become an incredibly well-liked colleague to everyone at Brackley and Brixworth.
‘However, Mick is first and foremost a driver. We have seen both from his time in F1 and this year with his performances in the World Endurance Championship that he is a racer of an incredibly high caliber and that he deserves to compete in the very best championships.
“As he moves on to his next challenge, I would like to personally thank Mick for his contribution to our team and we all wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”
Schumacher, meanwhile, added: “I am grateful to Toto and the entire Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 team for the insight I have gained over the past two years. They have undoubtedly made me a more experienced driver, because I have gotten to know the technical side better.
‘But it’s tough to watch these cars race without being in the cockpit. I want to concentrate 100 percent on racing again. I want to fully commit myself to the sporting side of motorsport.
“Ultimately, racing is what you want to do as a driver, it is racing that gives you the feeling you love.”
