Michael Olise scored a beautiful goal that gave the French Olympic team a 7-0 win over the Dominican Republic.

Olise, who recently joined Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace for £52million, has been included in Thierry Henry’s squad for the upcoming tournament on home soil.

Along with him, former Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette and Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta are also part of the Olympic squad. Mateta is the team’s only Premier League player and, like Olise, has never played for Les Bleus’ first team.

With the Games less than two weeks away, France played a friendly against an U23 team from the Dominican Republic on Thursday.

France took a convincing lead in the match and Olise scored from close range: 4-0 early in the second half.

The England-born forward didn’t have to wait long to double his tally, as he was given space when the keeper was in front of his goal after a foul kick.

Olise half-volleyed the ball from far outside the penalty area, sending his shot into the top corner, prompting a hilarious reaction from Henry in the dugout.

The goal left fans on social media wondering why Olise had not been selected for Didier Deschamps’ Euro 2024 squad, which was knocked out by Spain in the semi-finals.

A fan wrote: ‘This man should have played European football, he has no business being in U23 football’

Another added: ‘I hope he stays injury free! He’s a serious player.’

A third wrote: ‘Honestly if they started him as RW instead of Dembele they might be in the final’

Kylian Mbappé had hoped to become captain of the Olympic team this summer, but the former PSG star’s move to Real Madrid has put him off.

Clubs are not obliged to release players for the tournament and Real are confident their big signing will join up with his new team-mates after Euro 2024.
