A pair of Michael Jordan’s signature in-game shoes have sold at auction for a record $2.2 million.

Worn by the basketball legend at the 1998 NBA Finals, the pair of Air Jordan XIIIs broke the record previously set by a pair of Nike Air Yeezy 1 prototypes, which grossed $1.8 million in a private sale.

The previous record for a pair of sneakers sold at auction was $1.472 million when Jordan’s 2021 Nike Air Ships regular season game was won.

This sale places the shoes in a group of the most expensive Jordan items ever sold after his NBA Finals Game 1 jersey sold for $10.1 million in 2022.

Both items have probably increased in popularity boosted by the famous ‘Last Dance’ documentary that was largely watched on both ESPN and Netflix.

Jordan scored a game-high 37 points in Game 2 of the Finals as he donned ‘Bred’ XIII sneakers

“Sports memorabilia worn by Michael Jordan has proven time and time again to be the most elite and coveted items on the market,” said Sotheby’s Head of Streetwear and Modern Collectables Brahm Wachter when the item went on sale.

“Items from his Last Dance season, however, are of a larger scale and scope, as seen with our record-breaking sale of his Game 1 jersey in 2022.”

Jordan’s sneakers led a two-part sale of sports memorabilia called Victoriam Parts I & II, allowing bidders to submit their bids online between April 3 and April 11.

The NBA legend scored a whopping 37 points in Game 2 as he donned the “Bred” Air Jordan XIII sneakers in the second half of the win.

The Bulls went on to claim the Finals trophy as Jordan collected his sixth NBA Finals MVP award.
