Michael Jordan trading card sets incredible new record as it sells for an eyewatering $2.9MILLION at auction

Michael Jordan’s estate shows no signs of slowing down after a trading card with his signature sold for nearly $3 million at auction this weekend.

MJ is widely considered the greatest NBA player of all time, and fans clamored through Goldin this weekend to get their hands on a rare piece of memorabilia.

Up for auction was a 2003 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection Michael Jordan signed Logoman, which ultimately broke all records and sold for an eye-watering $2,928,000 to an as-yet unnamed buyer.

Nine bids were placed on the unique piece of memorabilia, Goldin confirmed, with the auction continuing past 10 p.m. as collectors fought over the item.

The winning bid – which was $2.4 million, increased to $2.9 million with a buyer’s premium – was submitted shortly before midnight.

The card has been rated a 10 by the PSA (the Professional Sports Authenticators), which indicates a ‘nearly perfect card’, which is why a lot of money is being spent on it.

Incredibly, while a record for a Jordan trading card, the $2.9 million sale is still far below Mickey Mantle’s record.

The New York Yankees legend’s 1952 Topps card sold for an astonishing $12.6 million in August 2022 by Heritage Auctions.

However, MJ does hold the record for the most expensive sweater of all time.

His 1998 NBA Finals jersey worn for the Chicago Bulls – in which they defeated the Utah Jazz – sold for $10.1 million in September 2022.

Jordan recently made headlines when he shed a few tears during an emotional speech at the grand opening of his family’s third medical clinic with his mother Deloris in North Carolina.

The 61-year-old six-time NBA champion partnered with healthcare company Novant Health to create his newest Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic in Wilmington, which provides medical services to local residents who are uninsured or underinsured.

Moved by the impact his clinic will have on the city where he grew up, Jordan said: “First and foremost, it’s good to be home. That’s what this clinic is about: when the families are unable to support, we are there to support.

‘Don’t you have any money? Does not matter. We’re going to do everything we can to support you, because that’s what happened to me. That’s where I got it from.

“… We did it in Charlotte, now we’re going to do it here in Wilmington, which makes it even more special because this is your home. This is where I came from and no matter how you see Michael Jordan, this is where I started, this is where I will always be a part of.”
